For this week's post we are engaging in a discussion about financial literacy in the context of credit and bankruptcy. There are links to two videos below. The first is for a documentary about the U.S. financial crisis but elements are certainly applicable to Canada as well. It is prophetic in that the documentary was produced before the credit crunch and mortgage crisis (which, together, contributed to the Global Financial Crisis of 2008). What you may find interesting is how students are profiled/portrayed in this documentary. The second video is about the Asia Financial Crisis and how it should have been a warning to the rest of the World that financial safeguards at the global scale should have been implemented prior to 2008. The AFC was definitely prophetic and what happened in Asia should have led to stricter financial regulations in the rest of the World. Unfortunately, the GFC hit hard and now we are reeling from a global battle with inflation, failing cryptocurrency markets, and a soaring cost of living due to post-pandemic supply chain issues, labour shortages, and depleted resources.
