Results

Table 1 presentsintercorrelations among all study variables. Creativity was significantly predictedbyopennessand teacher nominationsofpersistenceandpassion.Emotion regulation ability also significantlycorrelatedwithcreativity,r=.23,p<.001.

We tested our first hypothesis thatthe levelof openness to experience wouldmoderatetherelationship betweenemotionregulationability and creativityusingahierarchical linear regressionanalysis. After centeringthe predictorvariables, the

maineffectsofopennessandemotionregulationabilitywere enteredinStep1,andtheOpennessxEmotionregulation abilityinteractionwas entered in Step 2. Thus, openness was a significant moderator of therelationship betweenemotionregulationabil ityandcreativity.Figure 1depicts thenatureof theopenness by emotion regulation abilityinteraction usingsimple slopes atlow, medium, and high openness.
