• Go to https://www.eclipse.org/ide/ to download the latest version of the Eclipse IDE and install it
  • Mac users:
    • You will need to choose x86_64 or AArch64 depending on your type of mac. x86_64 is for Intel macs that were made between 2005 and 2021. AArch64 is for Apple Silicon macs shipped late 2020 and after.
  • Choose Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers from the installer; Instructions will be provided later for adding Python support.
  • Accept all the default settings in the installer and accept the license agreement

• Install Python and PyGame:
  • Install Python version 3.7 (if you dont already have it)
    • https://www.python.org/downloads/
  • Install Python support in Eclipse:
    • Open the Eclipse IDE and go to Help -> Install New Software...
    • In the Work with field enter http://www.pydev.org/updates (then hit enter)
    • Select PyDev and click next
    • Accept all the default settings; accept license agreement
    • Click to Trust Selected on the unsigned content
    • Click to restart the IDE to continue the installation
    • Go to File -> New -> Project...
    • Select PyDev-> PyDev Project (select next)
    • Add a project name
    • Make a reference to a Python interpreter by selecting the link Please configure an interpreter before proceeding
      • This may mean you will have to find your Python installation path
      • Try Choose from list first then try Manual config
    • Click to Open Perspective for an IDE UI configured for Python
    • Click File -> New -> File to add a file called test.py
    • Accept the default settings in the next popup
    • Because this is the first file you created for the project, it becomes the entry point
    • Add the line print(\"hello world\") and run it to see that it works
    • You can select Python Run as your configuration
  • Install PyGame
    • Install pip if you havent already. In the terminal:
      • Enter curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py -o get-pip.py
      • Enter python3 get-pip.py
    • Enter python3 m pip install pygame
    • Add import pygame at the top (It will not like it if you have not installed PyGame correctly or have the wrong interpreter selected)
    • Run it to see that it doesnt show an error

Show your work

• When you are done with your installation, write up and submit how it went
• Write in this file a description for how long it took for you to do this installation and what problems you ran into with this installation and how you resolved them. Also state if you are using Windows, Mac or some other platform.
