Instructions:
- Find coverage in the same media type of similar events. The events must be at least 20 years apart, and the most recent must have occurred since 2010. Here are some examples (use your imagination, but these might give you an idea):
- Coverage of the Super Bowl in the 1980 issue of Sports Illustrated and in the 2010 issue of Sports Illustrated. (You can find back issues of SI through the library.)
- New York Times coverage of the winter Olympics (2010) or the summer Olympics (2012) and a parallel Olympics two decades ago.
- Coverage of a college baseball game in a 1922 edition of The New York Times and in a 2002 issue of the NYT. (Back issues of many newspapers are in the library.)
- Television coverage of a college bowl game in 1989 and in 2005. (ESPN Classic and various sources of Internet archives could be helpful here.)
The events I will be covering are the Phillies 1980 world series win, and the Phillies 2008 world series win
- Compare and contrast presentations of the two events you choose, looking at tone and paceof coverage, use of technology, references to popular culture, and emphasis on sporting and social values present in the coverage. What are the major differences? Would the older coverage be appealing today? Why or why not? What has remained consistent?
- Cite relevant material from the references given, if you use those references. Please use references at least twice and make the references explicit
- provide the sources of the original material you evaluated at the top of your paper (example: headline, date, publication.)
