Design ESAL is needed for SR87 between Fort McDowell Road and Saguaro Lake Rd. (Bush Hwy). A new construction project is programmed in the next year's construction schedule. Roadway class is determined to be Rural Principal Arterial (Other) with 2 lanes in each direction. Annual average daily traffic (AADT) is 12,442 with 1187 single unit vehicles and 617 combo trucks (combination unit vehicles). See Figure A-1 for FHWA's vehicle classification information. Annual growth rate is 4%. Directional distribution can be taken as 0.5. Using Arizona Department of Transportation's design approach, calculate 20 year design ESAL (W18) for this project.
