Question:
Hometown Credit Union Banking Website
Business Need
Allow existing banking customers to perform banking functionsvia a website.
Business Requirements
Hometown Credit Union is a small, Midwestern banking operationwith three branch locations. Membership is open to thepublic, but the credit union has no online functionality at thistime. Therefore, most members are individuals who resideclose to one of the branches.
Hometown would like to create an interactive website wheremembers will be able to view balances, transfer money between theiraccounts, and make payments on loans with the credit union. The functionality is as follows:
Log in to a protected area of the website
View balances for any and all banking accounts
Transfer funds from one account to another
View balances for any and all existing loans from Hometown
Make payments for any loan from Hometown
Business Value
We expect that existing members will make use of the website’sfunctionality to be able to perform select banking operations24/7. The immediate impact on members will be that they canbank at odd hours of the day. The primary benefit to theorganization is reduced foot traffic at the three branches, as wellas an opportunity to market the credit union in a positivefashion. Finally, it is expected that membership may slightlyincrease because of this additional functionality, but it is notestimated that the membership will increase by a significantmargin.
Special Issues or Constraints
Many credit union members are not savvy computer users. Therefore, this website is an optional feature for members. Members should not be required to use the website for any bankingfunction.
The three branches currently run on a client-server hardwaresetup with one central database (and multiple redundantservers). The website will interact directly with thatcentralized database, so account information will be integratedthroughout the system.
