Latent Print Assignment You are given two latent prints from class that were extracted using latent fingerprint powder and five reference prints for comparison. You must compare and IDENTIFY at least 12 points of minutiae for a match, however you are not limited to 121 Make sure you spend time looking for as many points of minutiae as possible, points will be taken off for lack of effort (you can miss some without penalization). You will be comparing these two latent prints to FIVĚ reference prints from known suspects. For full credit you will need to submit: A) Latent vs Reference prints that are deemed a match. Number corresponding matching ridge characteristics, and in a separate section describe what each number represents (see below) This will involve some trial and error. First, I would start with the fingerprint pattern, then I would try to find an area that is visually easy to find on both prints such as the center of w whort or the top center of an arch/loop. Then it is a matter of then looking for identifiable ridge characteristics that you can find on both prints. The challenge, is that you may find a clear ridge characteristic for the Reference, but a murky unclear one for the latent (thus not being able to use that ridge characteristic). Have fun with this assignment, as the more you practice the better you will get at it. (See below for an example). 11 12 01 11 12 10. 02 10 02 -03 £0- 09 09 04 04 08 08 07 06 Os 07 06 05 1. Bifurcation 2. Bifurcation... and so on B) You must state whether either latent print is a match, and you must state which suspect print it matches to (at least 12 points of minutiae). For instance Latent Print TR2-4497 is a match for Suspect 0007. If the latent print has significant matching ridge characteristics, but does not add up to 12, then you can state that it is consistent with Latent Print, however only X# of points were identified to be a match and is insufficient to make a positive match. If one or both latent prints do not match any of the suspects, please make sure you state this for part B).
