. Identify two behaviors portrayed in the video. The video had behaviors such as interruption and mouthing from one person. He disrespected all members of the group, including the social worker. Other people in the group chimed in to stand up that alcoholism is an actual thing and that they are here to better themselves. The man who was interrupting and mouthing ended up lowering his wall of resistance and opened to the group about his problem. Explain how you would address the behavior and the intervention skill type you would use. The scenario of this video, with it turning into a group discussion, was magnificent! That is the whole part of group therapy, and having a group discussion of other members acknowledging their situations to make other members feel comfortable was perfect. The social worker addressed the situation with great questions, but I would admit him for opening and that he phased his resistance. I would professionally discuss his standard approach and that this group would do great things. Others would report the intervention skill I would use. "In addition to members' self-observation and workers observation, leaders often rely on the reports of people familiar with members' behaviors outside of group" (Toseland & Rivas, 2017, p. 244). Reports by others will best ensure the group member finds excellent results and changes to what the group therapy is focused on. This way, the worker is doing a report, the clients are self-observing and reporting what they feel is working well and not well, and the outside community is observing. Three reports benefit group therapy because they will get three different perspectives. . Explain why you chose this intervention. The reason why I chose reports by others is because the whole idea of group therapy is to communicate what the focus of the group is. Group discussions benefit clients by awakening them to realize they are not alone in their pain and helplessness. Reports by other inventions will help in more ways than getting three different perspectives. Other ways are "the worker can build a relationship with persons who have daily contact with group members and ensure that accurate data are reported about members' behaviors outside of the group (Toseland & Rivas, 2017, p. 245). This way, we provide the best service for individuals in group therapy. Reference Toseland, R. W., & Rivas, R. F. (2017). An introduction to group work practice (8th ed.). Boston, MA: Pearson. Baltimore, MD: Author Identify two behaviors portrayed in the video Two behaviors that were portrayed in the video Sessions: Levy episode 6 were empathy and hostility. In the beginning of the session, there were two clients, Bill and Jake, sharing about their alcohol use and how it affects them and their families. Once Jake shared how alcohol affects his family, he became vulnerable which then allowed the other clients to express their concern and empathy. Explain how you would address the behavior and the intervention skill type you would use Clients expressed their feelings and emotions appropriately, however, when Bill and Jake were conversing, I would have addressed the way they communicated to one another. I would have interjected and helped them reframe their sentences with one another to help them learn healthy communication skills. When the clients expressed their struggles with alcohol, I would also use a reframing intervention skill. When Jake stated, my wife has had enough of me too, I would help him reframe the sentence to, 'my wife has had enough of my alcoholism." Separating the individual from their disease can help release the guilt and shame that they carry. Helping the client to understand that wife is upset with their drinking rather than themselves as a person. Explain why you chose this intervention. Reframing can be beneficial in this session because it can help the clients see situations from another point of view. In doing so, the client can gain a new perspective and the negative perspective can have a better chance at being changed (Toseland & Rivas, 2017). As I mentioned above, helping clients that suffer from alcoholism see things from a different perspective can help release negative emotions, thoughts, feelings that are associated with the disorder.
