Question:
Identifying shortfalls in the staffing of a small real estate office.
You are the branch manager of a small real estate office. These are your staff:
Karen - secretary and receptionist. Efficient, punctual, and liked by everyone in the office.
Jo - part-time receptionist, and assistant to property manager, Angela. Angela has complained to you about her work on several occasions. She is not generally liked in the office.
Angela - property manager. Extremely efficient, doesn't tolerate sub-standard work from others. Doesn't like Jo and doesn't trust her. Is respected by everyone in the office.
Wenyi - salesperson. Top performer, has support team of three assistants, all with licences. Assistants are: Xiaomei, Victor and Yiding. This team is hard working and gets on with all the staff in the office.
David - salesperson. Very good, but is missing business because he's too busy. Liked by his colleagues. Jason - salesperson. A bit lazy, but quite successful because business seems to 'fall into his lap'. Easy going and gets on with everyone.
Anna - salesperson. Very successful. Works with her husband Kevin as her assistant. Popular in the office, she often brings in fresh baking for everyone.
Maggie - salesperson. Very good at sales but not well organised - often double-books appointments. She's easy to get along with.
Sandeep - salesperson. Well organised and successful. Quiet and polite, everyone likes him.
Janetta - salesperson. Young and new to real estate. Keen to learn, following office procedures carefully, has secured two listings. Staff in the office are happy to help her because she is always grateful and appreciative.
Sean - salesperson. Has been in real estate for 30 years and knows a lot of people. Business is steady with most being referral business. An easy-going character with a good sense of humour, he regularly has the office in fits of laughter. If there is a rift between salespeople he quietly sorts it out.
Task 1 Identify the staff in the office whose work could be improved, explain how the work could be improved, and how you would discuss this with them.
