If you had to pick just one stock to invest in, what company would you choose to
Question:
If you had to pick just one stock to invest in, what company would you choose to invest in and why? Make sure to include the company and the company's stock price in your answer. We will use that company and the original stock price for a future assignment later in the course.
Please post the following for a maximum of 5 extra credit points:
1. The name, ticker symbol, and a stock price of the company you picked in the week 3 assignment. Just to be clear, for this part you should list the stock price from your week 3 assignment, not the current stock price.
2. The stock price of the company you picked in week 3 as of last Friday.
3. The percentage and dollar amount of the gain or loss you would have experienced on that hypothetical investment of $100,000 in week 3. Please show your work. (See my calculation of the change in value for the S&P 500 and gain or loss on that investment in part 4 below if you are confused about how to get this done. You can follow that example for the individual stock you picked in week 3.)
4. Would you have been better off just investing in an S&P 500 index fund (passive investing) and by how much? Please show your work. For this calculation, use the following values for the S&P 500:
Value at end of week 3: 4,070
Value at end of week 9: 3,861
Change in value (%): (4,026/3,583) - 1 = -.051 or a 5.1% decrease
Change in value ($): -.051 x $100,000 = -$5,100 decrease
