Question:
In the film, " Margaret Mead: Coming of Age," describes an influential woman in anthropology. She was first inspired of anthropology by Frank Boaz, to which led her in her first study of adolescence in Samoa. During her time, there was not enough information on how to conduct valid research, so she managed the best that you she could. This later conflicted people of her authority in anthropology, as she did not live with the people she was conducting research on. But as Mead continued her exploration and study, you can formally see how she becomes more accredited with field notes and videography. Mead teaches us cultural relativism and opens the eyes of the world, of different cultural constructs. The film later shows us how Mead takes the norms of the people she has studied in their society and uses them to raise her own child. Overall the film provides great insight of the inner workings and development of anthropology through the journey of Mead and her work.
