5. We have now covered topics of gene cloning and protein purification. Design a strategy for expression of a gene of interest (give the gene and protein product a name) and purification of the protein product. Your final answer should be in the form of a typed, numbered, stepwise protocol of no more than one page in length. Include helpful drawings (e.g. figure of plasmid vector) on a separate page. Be sure to address the following: a) what vector will you use and what are the essential components for cloning and expression? b) what is the gene to be cloned and from what source and how will you obtain it? b) how will the gene be inserted into the vector to enable expression in E. coli c) how will you purify the protein product? (this requires that you think back to different purification strategies we have discussed). Feel free to work together, but each of you should have your own gene/protein of interest. Think about examples of proteins we have discussed or proteins of general interest to you. 5. We have now covered topics of gene cloning and protein purification.
