Question:
In your own program, observe children engaged in scientific inquiry in the sand center and the art center.Think about what the children are trying to figure out. What scientific concepts/principles are they investigating? For example:
- Are they exploring the proprieties of gasses, liquids, solids?
- Are the exploring the properties of plants, animals, people?
- Are the investigating weather and seasonal changes, e.g., the effects of rain, wind or snow?
- Are they exploring properties of light and colour, e.g., shadows, the use of magnifying glasses, or the use of prisms?
- Are the investigating the effects of using tools and machines, e.g., the effects of levers as in teeter-totters, inclines planes as in ramps, simple pulley, or densities of wood and the strength used in pounding nails?
- Are they investigating various effects that are due to gravity, magnetism, inertia, e.g., centrifugal force and centripetal force such as balancing blocks, winging, running up or downhill?
Note:Centrifugal force = the force tending to pull an object outward when it is rotating rapidly around a center. Centripetal force = the force tending to pull an object inward when it is rotating rapidly around a center.
When you provide examples, use the same format as used in the scenarios of Tyson (and the bubbles), Jasmine (and the worm), or Stevie (and the pumpkin).
