Question:
Juvenile delinquency follows a trajectory similar to that of normal adolescent development. Children and youth tend to follow a path toward delinquent and criminal behavior rather than engaging randomly. The overall topic of juvenile delinquency is considered a societal problem. As a juvenile spends their time going down the wrong path with no intervention it can lead to gang involvement, decreased school involvement ,and possibly a lifelong spiraling in and out of prison.Early intervention prevents the onset of delinquent behavior and supports the development of a youth's assets and resilience. It also decreases rates of offenses by a significant 16 percent when youth do go on to engage with the justice system (...). Research has shown that there are two types of delinquents: those in whom the onset of severe antisocial behavior begins in early childhood and those in whom this onset coincides with entry into adolescence. Individuals whose antisocial behavior begins in early childhood are two to three times more likely to perpetrate more severe and violent repeat offenses than youth whose delinquent behaviors begin in adolescence.Asking the question "Is Prevention and early intervention more effective than remediation in lowering rates of juvenile delinquency (...5)? What are the risk factors for juvenile delinquency? There are many factors that play a role in deterring a juvenile from partaking in gang membership and delinquent behaviors such as home life and school life.
There are other effective strategies as well. For example, partnerships among law enforcement, schools, parents, the community, faith-based organizations, and youth have been found to be successful in preventing gang involvement. My research will show that The most effective program or approach to lowering juvenile delinquency is Multisystemic Therapy (MST)It is a family- and community-based treatment program for adolescents with criminal offense histories and serious antisocial, delinquent, and other problem behaviors.
