Overview of Assignment

Understanding the modal options is an important aspect of transportation management. However, before the freight moves, we must make decisions that are properly aligned with the organizations supply chain strategies.

Modal selection is a critical decision in material flow, choosing among the modal options is a function of three factorsmodal capabilities, product characteristics, and modal freight pricing.

Instructions:

Provide a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Matrix for each organization identifying the transportation objective of the company and providing a strategic decision for the Logistic mode chosen.

1. Axwear is a family-owned company, a leading brand in durable workwear and outdoor apparel located in Detroit, NY. Axwear is experiencing rapid growth opening its own retail stores across the country. With rapid growth and new markets (including ecommerce), the company was prompted to review the transport modes solutions, including expansion to Toronto, Vancouver and Paris. (6.5 marks)

1. Liquid Connection managed sourcing and booking all liquid bulk loads, vetting carriers and ensuring that loading and unloading sites were prepared to the receive drivers. With a supply network including Southern USA and throughout Canada, Liquid Connections customers are large and small and responsiveness is extremely important. When booking a current load, the General Manager began strategizing the best arrangement providing bulk freight loads to the customers. (7 marks)

1. Contactronic a electronic manufacturer, is has been asked to review supplying a electronic distribution centre in Vancouver. Contactronic purchases raw materials from various international sources, then ships to an assembling plant in Asia. Moving delicate, highvalue electronics requires choosing transport modes able to handle the specialized needs. (6.5 marks)
