Question:
Morten Hansen, in his book Great at Work, challenges the long-held practice and belief by many organizations that in order to succeed and grow the organization, employees need to work longer hours. Many businesses, large and small (healthcare, financial, production, etc.) continue to encourage employees to work 50 - 70 hours a week, 12-16 or more hour days, even though research continues to show that productivity diminishes when those longer hours are tacked on to the workday/workweek. These excess hours, however, come at a price, often impacting employees' physical, emotional, and mental health. This is just one issue that impacts employees' physical and mental health. Businesses have a vested interest to take the health of their employees seriously.
As a financial leader for an organization, what recommendations would you make to the overall leadership in helping them to establish policies and practices to encourage, protect and provide for the well-being of employees?
