Teenagers use of social media has been linked to a number of poor mental health outcomes, such as sadness, anxiety, sleep problems, and issues with body image. The pressure to display an edited, idealized image of oneself on social media, which can result in feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, may be one explanation for these detrimental impacts. Social media can also expose teenagers to online harassment and cyberbullying, which can exacerbate pre-existing mental health issues or lead to the development of new ones. Social media can offer youngsters possibilities for social interaction, access to knowledge and services, and a platform for self- expression despite these worries. Methods Using a thorough search of academic databases and other sources, this research paper will examine the body of work already produced on the impact of social media on adolescent mental health. We will pay particular attention to studies that make use of rigorous research designs, such as longitudinal and randomized controlled trials.
