Question:
This statement is generally true. Studies with identical twins have shown that they seek similar careers. The explanation may lie in personality. A recent analysis of 60 studies linked individuals' personalities to their intentions to pursue a business career and to the performance of their companies once that decision was made. The Big Five personality trait theory , except kindness that did not matter - significantly predicted business intentions and more significantly, the performance of entrepreneurial businesses. Especially important was the openness to experience and awareness, which also predicted steady growth over time. Interestingly, the propensity to risk - the tendency to take and feel comfortable with taking risks, was not associated with business performance. What are the implications of these results? Traditionally, people who considered themselves risk-averse moved away from entrepreneurship. However, these results suggest that scores on openness and awareness are more important. The best entrepreneurs don't seem to be on the side of the table with risk takers, but rather those who methodically have the discipline to direct their open thinking and creative ideas into reality tend to be more successful.
