In the 1999 case of "Margo v. Ford Motor Co." in which the plaintiff sued Ford, alleging that the car had a defective seatbelt latch. The plaintiff also sued the driver who hit them, alleging negligent driving. The jury found both defendants liable, with the other driver 70% at fault and Ford 30% at fault. Ford, however, was able to successfully argue on appeal that the plaintiff had not adequately shown that the seatbelt was defective, resulting in the judgment against Ford being reversed. This case illustrates how complex these multi-defendant lawsuits can become, and how the different defenses may play out in court.
