Question:
Practice interviewing by asking a friend or family member questions to learn something interesting about them that you didn't know before.
Write up to five paragraphs that would begin a news story about the person. Your writing should include:
- A news or feature-style lead that includes why the reader should be interested in the person (newsworthiness)
- A direct quote from the person that is interesting and adds informational value
- A transition paragraph that would take the reader into the next part of your story
Remember: You are not writing a full story; just the first few paragraphs (and remember, news story paragraphs are 2-3 sentences!). I want to see how you identify what is newsworthy. Everyone has an interesting story (EVERYONE). You just have to find it. Ask questions and listen to the answers.
