Question:
Prior news related to COVID supply bottlenecks, I really thought the overall "SCM" concept was still relatively new to many organizations. Previously, we (in my former apparel company) had merchandisers and then they were transformed into sourcing managers. Likewise, my team (Customs and Logistics) was never connected to other departments within the supply-chain. Eventually, we were all together in (1) group with a Vice President of supply-chain. I truly believe this same type of organizational division is why some of the technology that organizationshave or do not haveis (often times) lagging.
The supply-chain is very complex and very diverse within each industry. The supply-chain impacts all areas of an organization, but I still find that many people do not fully understand the supply chain (at all).
What about you and your organization--how is your company organized? Do you have a formalized supply chain division...why or why not?
