The machine has an expected life of 10 years and a nil residual value. Depreciation is to be provided based on time apportioned basis. PSD received a 50% grant towards the cost of machine on the same date. PSD's accounting policy for capital-based grants is to treat them as deferred income and release them to income over the life of the asset to which they relate. On 31 December 2020, it is found that PSD can no longer fulfil the requirements of the government and hence PSD had to repay 50% of the grant on 31 December 2020. The accounting year end for PSD is 31 December each year.
