The new plan, set to be disclosed in the company's annual report, comes as Marks and Spencer attempts to build bridges with some investors following some prior tensions over corporate governance and pay. Some people familiar with the new plan described it as "more modern" and "more shareholder friendly". It is the first to be set out by new chairman Robert Swannell, who will be keen to make his mark on the group, and draw a line under past differences with investors. I. II.
