Read the article about the Cross-Cultural Communication Competence Model and provide a brief overview of the key aspects of each of the Cross-Cultural Communication Competence Model's four dimensions and how the model was applied. "Cross-cultural literacy means an understanding of how cultural differences across and within nations can affect the way business is practiced. Underneath the veneer of modermism and globalization, deep cultural differences often remain" (Hill & Hult, 2020, p 89 ). The four dimension of the Cross-Cultural Communication Competence Model are interpersonal skills, team effectiveness, cultural uncertainty and cultural empathy. o Interpersonal Skills – “A team member acknowledges differences in the communicative and interactional styles of people from different cultures, demonstrates flexibility in resolving misunderstandings, and feels comfortable when communicating with foreign nationals" (Scott, 2016). o Team Effectiveness – The foundation of a strong team must be purpose, direction and motivation that inspires and engages members. Teams will not be inspired if they don't know their purpose or what explicit goals they must achieve. According to Scott, this dimension includes such critical skills as the ability of a team member to understand and clearly communicate team goals, roles, and notes to other members ofa multicultural team" (Scott, 2016). Cultural Uncertainty - The ability of a team member to display patience in intercultural situations, to be tolerant of ambiguity and uncertainty due to cultural differences, and to work in a flexible manner with others on a multicultural team (Scott, 2016). Cultural Empathy – The ability to put one's self in another cultures shoes. In order to fully experience cultural empathy we must openly and honestly embrace the culture so we can not only understand the environment on a societal level but we are also able to understand people personally to know what motivates their individual productivity and creativity. The model was applied in a way to provide quality care in medical settings. It is understood that organizations have to work together with their multicultural staff to provide culturally competent care. Because, patients who have challenges such as language barriers are at higher risk of having negative health consequences. Discuss any weaknesses that the model has and what you recommend adding to the model to improve it.
