Question:
Recently my company has tightened the reigns on our para hours. The goal and message delivered to hospital leaders was to get your para hours below X which was substantially lower than our already budgeted percent. This message was delivered from top to bottom. This message immediately ensued panic. Panic from our leaders, our clinicians and most of all, from our associates. We as leaders, were given no information ahead of time or time to process after the delivery. We were faced with challenges we were not prepared to face and questions we could not answer. While this request was valid for the company there was no collaboration in the ask of how we accomplished this task, just action demanded. This created disengagement and distrust from a multitude of teams.
After going through this recently, it has taught me the importance of bringing together key stakeholders to talk about the real impact decisions have on all of a team and not just a bottom line. While there was transparency in the ask there was not freedom to get to the solution how we wanted. Moving forward I know that I need to speak up sooner and "rumble" to ensure that I am advocating and promoting collaboration, especially from my higher leaders.
