Reflections on the course and your learning on the Host Europe Case and UCB Host Europe Case:
Question:
Reflections on the course and your learning on the Host Europe Case and UCB
Host Europe Case:
The Host Europe case considers sustainability and impact across several domains. CSR engagements can be tricky to evaluate as the benefits and costs are potentially borne by different groups. Additionally, few companies have the reach and clout to align a global supply chain with its vision.
In your brief for this week, you should consider what an even more complete CSR engagement of Host Europe would look like. Consider the types of measures that could be introduced to further improve the ecological and social aspects of sustainability without jeopardizing (and potentially even improving) economic success at Host Europe.
UCB Case:
The UCB case is all about leveraging analytics and "big data" in a pharmaceutical company. Making use of analytics in any firm requires striking a balance between needs, wants and capabilities. Creating a system that is too rigid and centralized can incentivize employees to work around the system. (It is often said that an Excel spreadsheet is where analyses and insights go to die.) On the other end of the spectrum, companies that have made the tools broadly accessible and available have encountered scenarios in which managers and supervisors spent too much time "fiddling" with the data / reports and too little managing and supervising.
Reflection on both:
How will the information from the past few weeks influence or benefit you?
• Did a topic make you feel passionate or polarized?
• Did something discussed change your opinion about a subject?
• Is there a rebuttal you would like to make against another argument presented in class?
