Class Scenario

University of Manitoba  is dealing with complaints from students who are concerned about how the administration is dealing with student absences during the pandemic. The major complaint received is that now that the restrictions are being lifted, there seems to be no accommodations being made for students who are too unwell to attend class, or who need to stay home to care for a child or family member. Since attendance is mandatory for all University of Manitoba  courses, students are worried their absences could get to the point where they will fail a course. Complicating matters even further is that PACE has removed accommodations for students with respect to remote learning. Instructors are no longer required to record lectures, nor are they required to use ZOOM to offer a virtually live (or recorded) version of the lecture. In order to be more pro-active for fall, University of Manitoba   administration has hired your educational consulting company to come up with some recommendations on how to proceed. Some items they would like you to consider are: 

• What are other universities and colleges doing? 

• What accommodations are working? (e.g. hybrid classes, remote learning, etc.) 

• What accommodations do the students seem to like? 

• What costs are associated with these accommodations? 

• What conclusions & recommendations can you make, given the timeframe (fall 2022) and budget constraints?
