The Wrigley Company manufactures sugar-free chewing gum under the brand name Orbit. It is sold in cardboard boxes with 14 individually wrapped pieces per package in the United States, where it was relaunched in 2001. When it was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1899, it was sold in the traditional long-stick format, which was later replaced by the same format in the United States. In 2001, Cadbury Adams' Trident White gum was rivaled by Orbit White, which was sold in 20-piece blister packs. (Wikipedia, 2023). When William Wrigley Jr. established the business in 1890, he was unaware of the oral health benefits of chewing sugar-free gum, which are now recognized and supported by nearly 20 national dental associations worldwide. The commercial starts with a woman and a man in an office together both to appear as business individuals. A woman comes in who appears to look to be less put together than the business woman and depicts a typical house wife. The two woman then get into a verbal disagreement about the man that it in the room with the both of them. Instead of using profanity towards one another the foul language is replaced with comical sayings. Things such as: "You lint licker!", "What the french toast!". When the verbal disagreement comes to an end the two women begin to physically fight. At the end of the commercial a blonde well put together women who is the spokesperson of the brand and appears in almost all commercials holds up the gum and says, "Fabulous! New Orbit's Raspberry Mint cleans another dirty mouth. For a good clean feeling, no matter what."
I personally enjoy this commercial because in my opinion it is comical for a gum commercial. It's something you wouldn't expect when advertising a product as such. It also keeps the audience at the edge of their seats because when the actors are saying such phrases you automatically assume that the vulgar language was going to happen and instead you are caught off guard with a funny comeback. Also, it's the "typical" housewife, business man, and secretary situation that one may see in a comical skit or read about in a story. I also enjoy the advertisement concept behind the commercial itself.
