Cost Leadership: One of the best and most wellknown examples of a rm using a cost leadership strategy is Walmart. ILl'v'almart is known as the value king across the retail industry due to their consistently low prices compared to their competitors. and are a prime example of a rm that has created competitive advantage by adopting a cost leadership value chain. Differentiation: Agood example of a company using a differentiation strategy is Tesla. They participate in the massive automobile industry. but they create a very unique and differentiated product that enables them to charge consumers higher prices. The technology they put into their cars is almost always new. innovative. and industry shaking. forcing other automobile manufacturers to keep up to compete. Tesla is the leader of the high- tech automobile market. which is why it's such a good example of a rm with a hint of exclusivity due to their differentiation value chain. Value Innovation: Avalue innovation strategy is much more complicated than the former two strategies. because there is a very delicate balance between costs and percieved consumer benets that must be met to be successful. A good example of a company that runs a value innovation strategy is IKEA. To save costs. IKEAwere able to position themselves to effectively eliminate the need for salespeople. expensive real estate. and after-sales service. Also to save costs. they forego many small outlets in favor of fewer but much. much larger stores in metropolitan areas. This reduces real estate costs. utility expenses. and other costs associated with running many small establishments. On top of their cost saving measures. IKEA brings a lot to the table in terms of product innovation as well as their shopping standards. They have effectively created a new and unconstested way for people to shop for furniture, and is a prime example of a company that uses a value innovation strategy. Chapter 7 Describe a rm you think has been highly innovative. Which of the lourtypes of innovationradicall incremental, disruptive, or architecturaldid it use? Did the firm use different types over time? A good example of a company that has been recently innovative isAMD in the microprocessor market. In April of 2022. Alle became the first company to introduce 3D VCache technology to a consumer processor. For those unfamiliar. processors usually have 3 levels of cache that is variable in speed. This helps the processor handle tasks faster. and more efciently. AM D's 3D V-Cache involves literally making the processor taller by physically stacking more cache modules on top ofthe already existing die. This made their line of 3D VCache processors blazing fast. and is something never seen before. especially in the consumer processor market. lDiver it's lifetime. AMD has typically participated in incremental innovation with small bursts of disruptive innovation here and there as processors improve and they trade blows with Intel. The new 3D Inf-Cache technology is an example of a wildly successful highlight of radical innovation. AMD plan to introduce this new technology to their newest line of processors. and Intel has yet to properly respond. Quote Email Author
