Scenario Sunderland Networking Systems (SNS) are a small not for profit organisation aimed at giving a "front end" to businesses in their start up stage. Prior to the pandemic, they operated from their physical office but, of late they are working from home with a mix of mobiles and call divert. As they have operated so well from home during the pandemic, and with the costs associated with premises, they are looking towards becoming a virtual business and potentially using IP based phone systems. To keep costs to a minimum, they are proposing to operate as a virtual business with the receptionist as the only full-time employee and two part time employees. The plan is that employees will typically work from their own homes which are geographically located in different areas of Sunderland (all have broadband). A typical example of one of their clients is Gizmo's Web Widgets (GWW) who are a 2-person business who design and build webpages for a variety of small businesses but, mainly those working in the creative industries sector. Typically, will be commissioned to build some aspect of bespoke web pages by, say an artist, looking to sell their work on-line. Many of GWWs clients are in their late 60's/early 70's retired or have taken early retirement. Their painting is more of a hobby but, it does generate a 2nd income. These clients prefer to speak to GWW over the phone and pay directly by bank or credit card. The trustees of Sunderland Networking Services are very supportive of the plans for the business to become virtual. They were impressed by the quality of the work submitted in their first stage (your PPW1) however, they still have voiced concerns about the client telephone experience. As such they have asked you design and build a prototype system for them. Requirements They would like you to produce a justified dial plan and design a secure prototype system to meet their needs. They have decided they need a minimum set of features: . Menu system Voicemail Ring groups regardless of geographic location of extension Audio conferencing Separation of organisations They envisage the final system needs to be designed for 100 small businesses each with up to 20 endpoints; plus their own requirements (which may grow to be the same). Please treat this as a design from scratch i.e. there is no pre-existing dialplan or any specific numbers. Obviously, the dial plan needs to be designed (and justified) to encompass the above requirements. However, the trial system needs only to be a fraction of this. For the purposes of the trial, three organisations have been selected: Gizmo's Web Widgets Luna's Letting Agency Mia's Mobility Aids There will also be a building management group (which will be for SNS). SNS will answer any incoming calls and transfer to the small businesses. Thus, they should be able to ring any of the small businesses but, the small businesses should only be able to ring their own extension and those of SNS. This means that no business can internally call the other. Please clearly state any special numbers e.g. ring group numbers. Ideally a menu system will be provided which will automatically answer the phone, allowing the caller to select from the businesses or SNS. In addition to the above, you are required to demonstrate how calls can be eavesdropped in VoIP systems and provide a full referenced 1,000 word report on appropriate mitigation.
