Tech Case 1 (20 points maximum) Objective: Tech Case 1 is designed to help you apply course content from chapters 2 and 3 to a real world technological innovation. All assignments are to be typewritten and are due on the date specified in the syllabus. All references must be cited . The work is to be your own and should not be submitted elsewhere or any other course. Innovations used are to be classroom appropriate. Avoid overexposed innovations such as Apple products, cell phones, internet, google, Facebook, computers, Tesla, Go Pro. The case has three parts. Upload a word file for part A&B, and 3 slides with a 1 minute recorded presentation for part C. Part A: Source of Innovation 1. Pick a particular technological innovation (product or process) that is of interest to you and briefly describe it. (one paragraph) 3pts 2. Explain the source of this innovation. See figure 2.1 of text. (one paragraph) 2pts 3. Which approach (science push vs demand pull) characterizes this innovation and why? (one paragraph) 2pts Part B: Type of Innovation 4. Analyze the type of this innovation (one paragraph for each) 1pt for each=3pts a. Is it radical or incremental? Discuss whether the type of innovation changed over time or to specific observers. b. Is it competence enhancing or destroying? Explain why. c. Is it architectural or component innovation? Explain why. 5. Has this technology been displaced by another technology? If so what is the nature of this displacement - discontinuous or not? Otherwise discuss why there have been no displacements in this technological innovation. (one paragraph) 3 pts Part C: Mini Presentation Do a recorded presentation of the above (part A and B) in pechakucha* style. 5 points. Your presentation should not have more than 3 content slides, and should not exceed 1 minute. Attach the slides to the write up (to conserve space, print using the 4 handouts per page feature). You will be graded on content and quality of presentation.
