The Airport Noise and Capacity Act (ANCA) of 1990 was created to help control the noise levels
Question:
The Airport Noise and Capacity Act (ANCA) of 1990 was created to help control the noise levels surrounding airports. The program was voluntary, but if the airports were built where the noise levels for the residential areas was considered then the airports would receive federal funding. The ANCA created restrictions on aircraft to make the surrounding communities less noisy. Airports are encouraged to "fly friendly" and avoid or create less noise in populated areas. In 2018, "congress directed FAA to conduct several reviews and studies of noise-related issues, including metrics, costs, and benefits of phasing out older and noisier aircraft, and potential health and economic impacts of overflight noise" (Tang, 2021, p. 2, para. 6). Congress has a large impact on the FAA and the policies to implement noise abatement.
As communities continue to grow and cities become more populated, how do you think the ANCA will change? How will the FAA and Congress decrease the amount of noise around airports?
