Biomass Energy is a green energy developer targeting high quality, sustainable clean energy solutions in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Biomass Energy develops and operates manufacturing facilities to produce wood pellets and wood briquettes from sustainable biomass for onward use in the generation of renewable power. Wood pellets and briquettes are actually made from agricultural or forestry wastes such as rice husk, oil palm waste, sugarcane bagasse, grain stalks, waste paper and straw. Pellet fuel shall be processed via the process of crushing, drying, mixing, pelleting, cooling, screening and packaging. Biomass pellets are used widely as a new green energy fuel, which is mainly used as a substitute for fossil fuel (coal, gasoline and natural gas). Biomass Refinery does the recycling of forestry wastes and produces finished products such as wood pellets and briquettes, and packaging paper. A Biomass refinery in Indonesia which is a recycling company located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia uses two different recycling processes to produce Intermediate product. Further, the Intermediate product produced at the recycling centres is used to produce three types of finished products: wood pellet, wood briquette and packaging paper. Due to imperfections in raw materials entering the recycling process, the yield rates are below 100 percent. The cost of producing Intermediate product from one ton of raw material at the two recycling centres and the corresponding values of yield rates are given in the Table 3. The cost of producing one ton of each finished product from Intermediate Product and the yield at the two recycling centres are given in Table 4. The CEO of the company is interested in minimizing the total cost of recycling the raw materials and producing finished products. 1). Draw a network diagram of this recycling problem indicating the supply capacity of raw materials and the demand of finished products. (2 marks) ii). Develop a linear programming model of this recycling problem.
