The development of an economy of French and English allied prisoners in a German prison gets a lot of attention from Varoufakis, especially insofar as it aids him in a discussion of currency. However, there is one key distinction between the POW economy and most: the POW economy is genuinely apolitical, its currency controlled by an outside and ignorant source, the Red Cross. This is most certainly not the case for the world economy and the particular currencies of nations. Why is the concept of apolitical money a fantasy? Why is it dangerous?
