The drag characteristics of the objects in fluid flow is essential for engineering design aspects, to reduce the drag on automobiles and aircrafts for speed and fuel economy for example. The phenomenon of drag can be simulated and measured by recreating air flow over an object. In Aerodynamics the resistance of the body as it moves through the fluid is of great technical importance. In this Open-ended lab, students will have to take any model (external flow) and place it in an air stream and measure its resistance by first identifying a proper apparatus for the experiment, and then finding values of required parameters using any method. Explain how to calculate various parameters related to cylinder resistance. Perform the experiment with precision. Analyze the results obtained from experimentation and compare them with the theoretical results. Demonstrate positive individual and teamwork while performing Open Ended Lab and follow the given instructions (both general and safety). Summarize all the procedures and conclusions in the form of written report for OEL The drag characteristics of the objects in fluid flow is essential for engineering design aspects, to reduce the drag on automobiles and aircrafts for speed and fuel economy for example.
