The following remarks on learning evaluation were made by Martin Sloman in People Management on 29 November 2007: For todays training and learning professional, making a value contribution calls for a wide-ranging approach that involves aligning learning processes and investment, and investment with the organizations strategic priorities, and establishing, through dialogue with senior decision makers, what are the most relevant evaluation methods for the organization The key challenge is to understand and respond to the legitimate expectations that key stakeholders, especially senior managers, have in relation to the strategic value of learning. Comment on the signifi cance of these remarks as the basis for an approach to learning evaluation which, according to some commentators, will replace the Kirkpatrick model and the reliance on return on investment as a measure of effectiveness.
