The goals for this week are to get practice with SPSS, identify problems, be sure you are saving files to the right locations and with names that make sense to you. These organizational skills are part of basic laboratory practices. Another part of this is to create your class notebook where you can write down information like the locations on your computer in which you are saving your work. This helps you remember where everything has gone and will help you avoid lost files. You will also be using these same skills of calculating descriptive statistics in most of the upcoming SPSS assignments. This is because the first step of analyzing nearly any data is to summarize it using measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, look at the data to see if it is normally distributed or not, generate charts and graphs to visualize both the center and spread of the data, and see if there are any outliers or oddities about the data.
