The Hersey-Blanchard Model suggests no single leadership style is better than another. Instead of focusing on workplace factors, the model suggests leaders adjust their styles to those they lead and their abilities. This model states 4 different styles of leadership: Directing, Coaching, Supporting and Delegating. Below is a brief description of the current situation and his relationship with 4 of his team members. Read each situation carefully and answer the questions at the end. Richard, the new intern. The company you work for has hired a new intern for your department. Richard is an enthusiastic young man and is currently in his final year of a Marketing degree. This is his first job, and although he is very nervous on his first day at the office, he is eager to learn and shows a very good disposition. Susan, the efficient employee. Susan has been working in the Operations department of the company for two years. You have been your supervisor almost all that time. She does her job quite efficiently and is knowledgeable, although she needs some guidance at times. Her motivation varies, there are some tasks that she is passionate about, but others she does because they are her job. Lucas, the ambitious finance guy. Lucas has been working at the company for 6 months and although he finished his Finance degree just a year ago, he seems to have mastered the basics. He is aware that he still has a lot to learn. His dream is to work in a multinational company, so his current job in the family business sees it only as a springboard to achieve more ambitious goals. Anne, the foreign trade expert. Anne is the Regional Manager for Southern Europe for a multinational plastics manufacturing company. She has been working in the company for 8 years and has been promoted several times. She has a master's degree in international relations and a specialization in sales and foreign trade. She is part of the committee in charge of discussing the new international strategy of the company. 1. Knowledge & Understanding: What is Leadership? Provide at least 3 academic definitions. 2.
