The leadership of Netflix is known for its advocacy of risk taking and blunt candor in communication. They also practice, according the WSJ 9-7-20, what is known as the “keeper test” with their employees. Managers are encouraged to routinely ask themselves if an employee were offered a job by another company, would they fight to keep that employee. If the answer is no, the employee is let go. That approach flies in the face of other leadership approaches that consider one of the priorities of management to be the well being, growth and support of the employees accountable to them. Having loyal, skilled, motivated and professional employees is an important component to any organization, especially for the finance operations.
