Question:
The world has changed significantly in the last generation. All over the globe and throughout Canada, there is an incredible awareness of culture today. Intercultural encounters have now become commonplace not only in circullar but in work life as well. In this group project, we explore intercultural awareness among the different cultures that currently exist in Canada. Students are required to do the following:
- Provide a summary description of all cultures represented in Canada. This summary should include the following;
- The names of the cultural groups
- A brief history of each of the cultural groups. Where do these groups come from?
- Distribution of the cultural groups within Canada
- Challenges and frustrations regarding circular and work life for each cultural group
- Influences of workplace practices on these cultural groups
- Provide suggestions for improving intercultural relations in work and circular life. Include strategies for managing diversity and creating inclusive work environments
- Clearly identify and select one cultural group with a significant presence in Canada. In order to prevent duplication of a selected cultural group, each group in the class should first seek approval from the instructor before the work begins. The group should at the least do the following:
- Clearly describe without ambiguity, the selected cultural group in detail. It is important that you provide the history of the identified cultural group, their geographic distribution within Canada, age distribution, and any other important background information.
- How important is this cultural group in Canada? What has been said or predicted about this cultural group? Is cultural heritage important to this cultural group? What festivals are celebrated by this cultural group, and what is the significance of such celebrations?
- Compare and contrast the key attributes of the selected cultural group with that of the Canadian culture. To what extent are these cultures influencing one another at home or in the workplace?
- Describe in detail, the culture of the selected cultural group. It is important that you provide vivid descriptions of their beliefs, values, norms, knowledge, customs, arts, language, etiquette, etc. Each group is required to provide a demonstrable description of each of these attributes of the culture.
