This assignment involves the Huff Model $($called $$potential model$$ in the text$),$ a retail gravitation model that attempts to predict where people will shop, given choices that vary in distance and some measure of $$mass$($interaction attractiveness$).$ The assignment asks you to do Huff calculations for the location of your home and three local retail $($shopping$)$ centers C$,$ L$,$ and P$,$ referred to collectively as $$j$.$ The Huff Model is appropriate for two or more retail centers. It is typically used to predict the proportion of people living in a particular neighborhood who are likely to shop at each of the centers. Alternatively, you could take a given center and calculate its pull for all people living in a region in order to predict how many people will probably choose to shop at that center. These types of calculations are commonly done as part of decisions to build a retail center. In this assignment, each of you will use the model to predict the probability that you shop at each of the set of three alternative centers.
