This assignment is based on a writing activity a lot of PR firms use when hiring interns
Question:
This assignment is based on a writing activity a lot of PR firms use when hiring interns or evaluating entry-level job candidates. For this assignment, you will locate a job posting for either a PR internship or an entry-level PR position with a local, national, or international PR firm. You will then pretend that the application process requires you to write a news release announcing your appointment to that job.
First, you will need to research the PR firm and job requirements and find out as much as possible about them. You can consult any type of source, but note that you cannot use the information you find verbatim. If you choose to use it in your news release, you need to put it into your own words.
Next, you will develop a news release announcing your appointment. Your news release should be tailored to a relevant local news outlet and should follow all the writing and formatting criteria discussed in class. You should consider this news release a part of your job interview. It's a way for you to tell your potential employer about your qualifications and explain why they should hire you. This means that you need to give them good reasons for hiring you:
- Don't mention abstract ideas such as bringing new ideas and experience to the team.
- Use concrete examples instead.
- Also try to avoid hype.
