Protestantism and humanism: Explain how Martin Luther is situated within the broader context of Renaissance humanist thought. Consider the "secular" emphasis and various challenges to traditional religion that were part of the humanist movement, and in your explanation of Luther's ideas, bring out especially the connections between humanist textual scholarship and early Protestantism.

Describe the central characteristics of the Renaissance humanist movement, using specific examples to show how those features were represented in both intellectual culture and in art.
