1. Write an essay in which you identify a specific way that you or someone you know has "altered public space" in some way, and illustrate how this has happened with specific examples. (You could think of a person with disabilities, a person who is famous, a person with body odor or a deformity, a person labeled as a "nerd," or a person of a certain ethnicity).
   
    
2. Write an essay illustrating a new and increasing obsession or trend that you have witnessed happening either in society in general or among certain groups. Try to think creatively here. As a mom, for example, I could easily illustrate how moms are pressured to parent in a "natural" way, and I have a lot of personal experience and observations I could use as specific and detailed examples to support my claim that this "natural mom" trend is increasing. Try to look into your own world and social spheres to see a trend or obsession you notice, and base your essay on that. Be careful though--you want to narrow your topic down to something specific and manageable, not something so broad that you are in danger of writing general examples and creating a hasty generalization.
