Question:
You know from your many experiences that success generally does not just happen. Motivation and determination are important factors. Planning and following the plan are important activities. Let's talk about your thoughts on how you can be successful in this math class.
See the time management document in the next topic that provides detail on what you need to plan for during this class.
Please answer each of the questions in a separate paragraph.
- What are your expectations and what are your concerns?
- What initial time management plan will you try to implement (realizing that you may tinker with this as the class moves along.).

Part 2 - Problem Solving
During this class you will encounter "word problems". That phrase often strikes fear in a math student. The better phrase is "application problem" since you will be applying a strategy/method/procedure to a variety of questions.
Information about problem solving is found in the e-text, which is accessed from the three horizontal bars in the upper left of the ALEKS screen.
Chapter 1 section 1-3 is titled Problem-Solving Strategies.
For this week study this section (pages 28 - 34) and then draft answers to questions 2 and 3 in the Exercise Set at the end of the section on page 35. The response to each question must be in your own words.
When e-text page numbers are referenced, the number is the text page number not the online screen page number.
When you access the text through the three bars on the upper left of the ALEKS screen the text page number is embedded in the actual page. The screen page number is at the top of the text page. Always use the text pages not the online screen page.
