You will be provided with two specimens of concrete reinforcement cage to observe and assess. For each cage you are required to complete the following steps. (1) Measure the key dimensions of each cage section as given in Table 1.0 and Figure 1.1 (ii) Determine the tensile and shear reinforcement bar sizes as given on page 114 to 116 of Cobb (2015) (iii) Assuming a concrete cover of 50mm to the reinforcement cage determine the moment capacity of the sections when used as a beam. (iv) Determine the maximum span of each reinforced concrete beam for the different load conditions given in Table 2. You are to state and justify all your assumptions, and to include with your calculations a sketch of your idealised beam under each loading condition.
