In answering the following exercises, it will be helpful to have before you the definitions of Type I and Type II errors that you have already learned. Here is a reminder:
Type I: There really is not an effect (population truth), but you find one (your decision) in your study.
Type II: There really is an effect (population truth), but you don’t find one (your decision) in your study.

A man is accused of committing a crime. The jury finds the man not guilty. Create a decision table for this situation like the one in this module and answer the following questions:
a. In which row of the table does the jury’s action fall?
b. Assume that the man really did commit the crime. In which column of the table does his guilt or innocence fall?
c. By finding this guilty man not guilty, which type of error did the jury make—Type I or Type II?
