Question:
A fan is used to provide fresh air to the welding area in an industrial plant. The fan takes in outside air at 27° C and 101 kPa at a rate of 34 m3/min with negligible inlet velocity. In the 0.93-m2 duct leaving the fan, the air pressure is 6.9 kPa gage. If the process is assumed to be reversible and adiabatic (isentropic), determine the size of motor (hp) needed to drive the fan.
