The bar graph in Fig. 5 shows their areas and that of the remaining North American countries in millions of square miles. The total area of North America is 9.5 million square miles. Canada is 200,000 sq. mi. larger than the United States. The area of the United States is one-half the area of Canada plus 1.75 million sq. mi. Let x, y, and z represent the three areas shown in the figure. Use the methods of this section to determine the values of x, y, and z.
