You wish to analyze the pedestrian traffic that passes a given store in a major shopping center.

Question:

You wish to analyze the pedestrian traffic that passes a given store in a major shopping center. You are interested in determining how many shoppers pass by this store, and you would like to classify these shoppers on various relevant dimensions. Any information you secure should be obtainable from observation alone.
What other information might you find useful to observe?
How would you decide what information to collect?
Devise the operational dentitions you would need.
What would you say in your instructions to the observers you plan to use?
How might you sample this shopper traffic?
Information that might be useful in the observation of pedestrian traffic. Would be tracking the time of day when foot traffic gets real thick around the store, day of the week the stores receive most of the traffic, and products that are presented in the display window to encourage shoppers to come into their store. The displays, physical surrounding, and color of the stores may attract more customers according to researchers (Haque, 2013, p.2). These findings will be beneficial to the store because they could use this data to market to their customers.
The information collected would have to useful for the store being targeted. The data I would collect is foot traffic around the store. This to me would be the most interesting piece of data available to the shop owners. This data will allow them to see how popular their store location is at attracting customers. By seeing how busy the traffic is they could use it to their marketing or advertising advantage. It is very useful in marketing or advertising purposes. This way they can began to market their brands to the consumer at the busiest times.
The operational definitions used in this scenario that we would need is a surveillance system. Ready to count people as they pass by the store and record the data. The researchers have concluded that they data that the surveillance system picks up on counting people is pretty accurate (Conte, Faggia,Percannela, Tufano & Vento, 2010, p.4). This way instead of having people count people walking past we can pick up the data thru a computer system that will run logarithm to count the people that walk past the store.
I would recommend to our observers is to take all the data available of the foot traffic around the store. So that we can better serve the store. Our data needs to be focused on how many people are focused in that one area throughout the day. We need certain time frames organized to show us what days and time are the busiest for the consumer.
The best way of sampling the data is thru time sampling. This will allow the store to see different times that are busy or not busy. By doing it this way it will also help out the store owner because then he can rely on the data from our study to produce product displays in the business time frames or show new designs. This way it will catch the eye of many onlookers and maybe you may get some traction with your marketing skills.
The importance of collecting data is very valuable too business for the point of picking up on customer's behaviors. The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it (Genesis 2:15). The Lord has taken us and put us in the same situation. Except not in a garden. He has set us in our jobs and in our jobs, we have tasks that need to be finished. Sometimes those tasks will require us to do some research into collecting data to make our company profitable or speed up a process. In collecting that data, we can pick up on customer's behavior and find ways to better serve them in the future.
